Kansas City Surf welcomes Katelyn to the family!
Originally from Denver, Colorado, Katelyn Barner developed her passion for soccer at a young age, competing at the highest youth levels through ECNL and Academy programs. She attended ThunderRidge High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where she was a four-year letterwinner, two-time All-Continental League selection, and two-time All-State honoree. During her senior season, Katelyn helped lead her team to a league championship while serving as team captain. Off the field, she excelled academically and earned Honorable Mention Academic All-American honors twice.
Katelyn continued her soccer career at the Division I level, beginning at the University of Wyoming before transferring to North Dakota State University. Following a series of injuries, she made the difficult decision to step away from playing but quickly discovered a new passion in coaching. She began coaching with Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club, where she developed a love for helping young athletes grow both on and off the field.
After graduating from Colorado State University, Katelyn relocated to Kansas City and has called the area home for the past two years. She is passionate about creating a positive, challenging, and competitive environment that fosters confidence, technical development, resilience, and a strong work ethic.
Katelyn is excited to join Kansas City Surf and help develop the next generation of athletes. She believes soccer is about much more than what happens with a ball at your feet—it teaches valuable life lessons, builds character, and creates opportunities for personal growth. Through positive experiences and meaningful relationships with coaches who genuinely care, young athletes can develop a lifelong love for the game and skills that extend far beyond the field.
🌍⚽ Kansas City Surf players Solveig and Bryndis are representing across the world!
While visiting family in Iceland, they have been training with a local club and continuing their development on and off the field. Experiences like these remind us that the game truly connects people across countries and cultures.
Who knows what the future holds? Maybe one day they’ll have the opportunity to represent either the United States or Iceland on the international stage! 🇺🇸🇮🇸
For now, the most important thing is to keep learning, growing, and enjoying every step of the journey. The destination can wait. Enjoy the process in between! 💙🌊
